Brass Ring Riding Club, Southeastern PA
Welcome to the Brass Ring Riding Club. We are a chapter of the National Old People's Riding Club. Our purpose is to ride, meet new friends and have fun safely while sharing knowledge on horse disciplines, care and activities.
Who We Are
Although our club is based in Unionville, PA, most Brass Ring members live in Chester, Delaware & Lancaster Counties in PA, New Castle County, DE. or Cecil County, MD. Members are active in a variety of horse activities including trail riding, fox hunting, combined training, eventing, and dressage. All Levels of expertise are invited to participate and range from beginners to professionals and trainers. Some of our members do not have their own horses but lease or borrow a mount for activities.
We limit our membership to 45 so we can get to know each other and have our meetings in each other's homes. Everyone is asked to participate in a number of our monthly meetings and volunteer for one or more activities. We are currently accepting new members.
What We Do
We hold monthly meetings beginning with a mix and mingle while enjoying a potluck dinner. Then we have a business meeting primarily focused on our recent and future activities. We usually follow with a speaker on an interesting horse-related educational topic. In July we have our Picnic with a Tack Sale/Swap, November our Annual Elections meeting and in December we have a Holiday Dinner.
We've had talks by members and other equine professionals including Veterinarians, Farriers, Trainers, and more about topics including Classical Dressage, horse and rider medical care and emergencies, the Equine Heart, tack safety, Nokota horses, Tai Chi, Biomechanics, Neurology, Lameness and Foxhunting.
Mounted activities have included trail rides by the Brandywine River in Chester County, PA, Valley Forge National Park, Fair Hill, MD, C&D Canal and Lums Pond in Delaware. We have conducted Bomb Proofing, Centered Riding, OPRC tests, dressage and jumping clinics as well as Game Days and Trail Tests. We have also spent weekends at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Area and at away-camp for cross country training at Olde Hope Farms in MD.
